Development workers who engage them therefore need clear knowledge, respectful communication skills and the confidence to correct misinformation.<\/p><p>The training helped OWACDO staff connect technical information with the realities young people face. It reinforced that effective prevention is not only about listing risks; it is also about enabling people to understand their options, seek appropriate services and make informed decisions without fear or judgement.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-31000008 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"31000008\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-31000007 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"31000007\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Understanding the available prevention options<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3100000a e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"3100000a\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-31000009 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"31000009\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Participants discussed several recognised HIV-prevention approaches:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Condoms<\/strong>, when used correctly and consistently, reduce the risk of sexual transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.<\/li><li><strong>Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)<\/strong> is medicine taken by an HIV-negative person who may have a substantial risk of exposure.<\/li><li><strong>Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP)<\/strong> is an emergency course of HIV medicine that must be started promptly after a possible exposure under the guidance of a qualified health professional.<\/li><li><strong>U=U<\/strong>\u2014Undetectable equals Untransmittable\u2014means that a person living with HIV who takes treatment and maintains an undetectable viral load does not sexually transmit HIV.<\/li><\/ul><p>These options work best alongside reliable testing, professional guidance and access to appropriate health services.
